YourMiniCon cancels six conventions
by Patrick Delahanty, Executive Producer, AnimeCons.com and FanCons.comYourMiniCon has announced via Facebook that they have cancelled their conventions in Wisconsin, Georgia, California, Kentucky, Idaho, and Texas.
YourMiniCon ran just one event in 2015 and announced that they would be holding anime, comic, video gaming, or "pop culture" events across the country throughout 2016. Their first event of the year was held in Connecticut last weekend. Their next event had been planned for Madison, Wisconsin on the first weekend of February. The guests scheduled for that convention, Kerrigan Mahan and Barbara Goodson, have agreed to appear at their Columbus, Ohio event instead.
The co-owners of the event cite their small staff (two people), competing events on the same weekend, and winter weather in Wisconsin as reasons for the cancellation. Attendees, artists, and vendors at cancelled events are being offered refunds or space at the Ohio event.
At one time, YourMiniCon had also considered a July show in Seattle, Washington and California shows in both San Diego in October and Oakland in November. (Only the Oakland show in July was ever formally announced.) In September 2015, the organizers launched a GoFundMe campaign to fund their travel across the country to scout venues. The campaign only attracted six donations and raised just $110 of the $795 they were seeking.
At this time, YourMiniCon still plans to hold events in Nevada, Maine, Colorado, Ohio, and Louisiana.
