News for Middle Tennessee Anime Convention 2010:

MTAC Odyssey maintains solid attendance during flooding

NASHVILLE, TN – Despite unprecedented storming and flooding of the Middle Tennessee area halfway through the convention, MTAC held a solid attendance of 4,200 at its 10th year anniversary event – MTAC Odyssey!

"It goes without saying that producing a major event in a city that experiences the flooding we did creates challenges even if you are not in a flooded zone," said Lucas Leverett, MTAC convention chairman. "However, I am immensely proud of the MTAC staff, volunteers, dealers, guests and our partners at the Sheraton Music City for helping to keep the convention run smoothly during this very critical weather event. Our convention saw no growth due to the loss of walk-in attendance who opted to stay home, but we maintained solid numbers on the level of last year, even in the face of the flood."

With several members stuck at the convention hotel Sheraton Music City on Sunday afternoon, MTAC delayed tear down to have its main room play anime and karaoke for those forced to stay another night while the Sheraton Music City offered highly-discounted rooms.

"What matters more to us now is that everyone is able to safely recover from any flood issues, and that people seek to help their neighbors with flood relief here in Nashville," Leverett said.

Several people are suffering after the impact of the May 1-2 storm that hit Tennessee. MTAC encourages anyone wishing to help out to visit the Flood Relief page of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee's web site at http://cfmt.org/floodrelief/

Now all that is left is for MTAC to turn it up a notch for "MTAC Goes To 11!" The 11th MTAC will be themed around music and its impact and presence in anime, manga and Japanese popular culture. MTAC Goes To 11 will also be the introduction of MTAC's new ConkittyTM.

"For me being an attendee of MTAC for eight years, I'm ecstatic that I'm the new Conkitty," said Alyss, MTAC's new ConkittyTM. "I can't wait to work with the MTAC staff and have the time of my life being Conkitty!"

Fans can look forward to MTAC Goes To 11 on Easter weekend 2011 (April 22-24).
